Ideas, Actions and Sex

The other day I was working in my yard. An excellent way to let my mind go sideways. To let it go anywhere it wants really. See, I needed a break. We have two books about to be launched plus the podcast and this blog. Then there are several audio projects we are working on plus a dozen or so eBooks. Quite the workload.

Which is when I take to doing physical labor. I think sometimes I was born doing labor. It helps me sort things out. Clears the head. However, once my mind is cleared things invade. One of those things that invaded my mind as I chopped on some tree branches was a story idea. Now I get story ideas all the time. Some of them seem original while others are reworks of existing themes. Nonetheless, they invade my mind when I least expect them.

What I do with these ideas is another story. See, I like to think of myself as a writer. As a good writer who someday will be great. The dream of all writers, I guess. Only thing is, I know my weaknesses. A man’s greatest strength is knowing his weaknesses. I read that saying on a church billboard deep inside Tennessee one day. It has always struck me to my core.

One of my many weaknesses is my ability to write. I believe I do good work on what I like the most. I like darker themes with Christianity thrown in. Like my short story Tank . I am a born again Christian and such themes and ideas suit me and the style I like to write in. But what do I do with the other ideas? I farm them out of course.

If I have an idea of a sexual nature, I have several authors to choose from. Which leads me to ask the nature of the sex involved. If it is erotica, then I tend to send it to Miranda Cummings first. Miranda adores erotica. Her collection of the genre is massive. Impressive to say the least. She prefers to write her sex scenes in a hardcore style; however, she is quite capable of less hardcore sex scenes. Even she will admit sometimes less is more.

I like Miranda’s take on life. She is fascinating in her ability to look at someone or something and create stories, sexual stories, about them. I sent her a curve ball when I asked her to add her part to The After Effects of a Good Time. I wanted her to write me a bitch. A hard-nosed, self-absorbed bitch whose only concern was herself. A woman married to a good man who was a bit of a door mat. She came through with flying colors.

I have other authors who handle sex well. The craftsman I handed Gigolo over to proved her capabilities at writing sex in a darker, comedic style. Lavender Mills comedy is a bit tongue in cheek, but it proved quite useful in the Gigolo series. Her insights into the way people think often makes me smile. She always looks for the laughter inside the dark storms of life.

Now if I want romance with the sex, I lean more towards Jocelyn Lockhart. Jocelyn’s heart is romance. Where Miranda sees the hot sweaty sex people might be involved in, Jocelyn sees the tender love that leads to the sex. Her mind is wrapped around the love aspects of people. However, she knows sex is also a part of love and keeps this in mind when she rights her books . The Lodge is a perfect example of Jocelyn’s style. She managed to tell an entire romance from an older man’s point of view. Quite an accomplishment. Which is why I chose her to write the husband’s side of the story in The After Effects of a Good Time .

Each of these writers can take on any project I ask them to. They just see the world through different eyes than I do. I look at a couple at lunch and my mind goes towards an avenging angel eating lunch with a demon from hell as they discuss what to do about the soul of the waiter. Miranda has them doing all kinds of sex under the table. Lavender has them comprised in a dark manner which makes you smile as you read it. Jocelyn has them mooning over each other as they try to figure out how to pay the rent.

Next time I will discuss who I send the supernatural themes to and why.

Most people who tell others they are authors work independently from the requirements of corporations or even normal jobs. Their job is to create. To craft stories we want to read.

It’s a good question. One I have heard many times in my life. Usually after somebody does something no one approves of. Yet, regardless of the situation, the question remains the same. Do people change?

I have discovered many things recently. The very first is I love the bed and breakfast we stayed in for our anniversary. It is an inventive idea for a bed and breakfast type place. The rooms are actual cabooses. That’s right, railroad cabooses.
