Have you ever had a day go to s#*t? Of course, you have. We all have. Sometimes as often as every day, and other times not so much. Which is why we are talking about cold beer and other vices.
Yesterday was a bad one for me. Turns out it was as bad for my Wifesty Yvonne as well. When I was on my way home, I called and asked if I had any beer in the fridge. I hadn’t but she knew this and got me a six pack of Negro Modelo.
Yvonne had gotten into the champagne a little earlier. She too had suffered one of those days. By the time I had been home ten minutes I had downed a cold beer and a shot of Malibu rum. In another hour I had downed a second beer and a shot of Tequila. I am here to tell you there was no shame in my game.
I had work to do of course. Work I blew off. I sat in front of my tv and let the day go. So did Yvonne. We had a great dinner together and let the world go on without us for a little while.
I am here to tell you there is nothing wrong with enjoying your life. Nothing wrong with putting life on hold for a minute or a night or for however long you need. I listen to some of these young entrepreneurs talk about why others don’t have what they have. They talk about working harder and longer than others to get their results.
Let me tell you, what they call work and what I call work are often quite different. I have worked, physically worked, for over forty years. For over twenty years, my average workday was twelve hours. When Yvonne first met me, I was working from three p.m. until seven a.m. on most days.
Let me tell you something more. Let go. Find your vices and enjoy. For me they are the Four G’s. Good food, good fun, good friends, and great sex. If you haven’t made time for these, then, you lose. This is my opinion of course but I say it with pride. If you need a cold beer at the end of the day when you take off your work boots or high heels, then do it. If you need some champagne to celebrate getting out of your work clothes and into your house clothes, then pour away. If you need to sip wine in a hot bath, then please – partake.
I am not the type to judge. I am the type to partake in my own vices. Life is meant to be lived and when you are living to work instead of working to live then it will catch up with you. when that happens you best take the time to dive into your vices head first.
I do.
