Good Food - Again

R. Ross Whalen • Sep 30, 2020
Not too long ago we released a series of podcasts and videos about our philosophy for what is needed to enjoy life. This series has proven to be quite popular. And why not? The Four Great Pleasures in Life is all you need. Good Food – Good Fun – Good Friends – Great Sex.

Think about it. If you have all these going on in your life you are a king or queen. What good is money if you can’t enjoy it. What good is success if you don’t have anyone to share it with. Faith is another story altogether. You have to believe, truly believe to have faith and if you have absolute faith you don’t need any of these.
However, for those of us who don’t, we have the Four G’s. Each has rules of course. The rules are the ones you create, no one else. I am not here to tell you what the Four Great Pleasures mean to you. I am simply going to share what I think some of them are. Take Food, the first and foremost of the Four G’s. You can’t do anything without food.

We here in America enjoy such a wide variety of food it is a miracle. I mean that. I have been in places in this world where their idea of wealthy makes our idea of poverty seem ridiculous. When you are hungry, nothing else matters. Most of us in America don’t go hungry. Not for days on end. Nor do we eat dirt or things which would make a Billy goat puke.

NO, I firmly believe America is the epitome of good food. I know the French and the Italians would disagree, but their food doesn’t have the variety we have inside our country. You recognize French food or Italian food immediately. However, in America food changes from state to state and often from county to county. I hope it never changes.

Do whatever you can to make good food a priority in your life. Without it the rest of the four great pleasures fade. For us, we have had to modify what we think of as good food. A while ago we made the change from normal food to Keto. An incredible change which has made a fundamental difference in our lives.
Now Keto requires you to eat less than fifty grams of carbs per day. In our case we try to keep it at twenty. Twenty carbs. A couple of bites of an apple is twenty carbs. Two slices of bread hit this. Potatoes? Rice? Pasta? Off the charts for a person who practices Keto.

So, you see where we had to make changes. At first, we consumed incredible amounts of bacon and eggs and cauliflower. Believe me, it is easy to get over such a diet when this is all you eat. It took us a while. My Wifesty researched recipe after recipe to create and craft meals that provide us with the right amount of carbs, proteins, and fats so we could stay on Keto.

I won’t go into the benefits of Keto living right now. All I will say is it has made a great difference in our lives. Increased our health dramatically. However, like I said, it took a lot to make Keto into great food.

One of those meals we enjoy which needed a bit of a change to become Keto was Chicken Parmesan. We love Chicken Parmesan. I take a great deal of pride when I make it. When we do it together it ticks off the Great Fun box. Yvonne and I enjoy being in the kitchen together. More couples should if you ask me.

Anyways, we modified Chicken Parmesan to become Keto. How? Well, we removed the breading of course. Use a combination of crushed pork rinds, parmesan cheese and Italian seasonings as the breading. We removed the pasta most like. If you want pasta with it, then I recommend a noodle called miracle noodles. They have no carbs and are close enough when cooked to pasta not to make a difference. We also use a sugar free red sauce.

It takes a lot to find a sugar free spaghetti sauce or marinara that is actually sugar free. Sugar has so many names and forms. The people who manufacture food use sugar like it is the second coming. They put it in everything in every form. You have to become adept at reading labels to see where the sugar is. And believe me, it’s everywhere.

However, we have found a sugar free marinara sauce which tastes like the real thing. A great Keto substitute. When we are done, we have an incredibly scrumptious Chicken Parmesan worthy of being called Great Food. It is so good it qualifies as a foodgasm.

If you want the full recipe, we will publish it for everyone. For now, all I ask is you take a look at what you eat. Is it good food or are you simply filling a hole. Yvonne and I have made Ramen into an excellent food experience. Same with hot dogs and sandwiches. Anything can be good food. The definition of good food is up to you.

Most people who tell others they are authors work independently from the requirements of corporations or even normal jobs. Their job is to create. To craft stories we want to read.

It’s a good question. One I have heard many times in my life. Usually after somebody does something no one approves of. Yet, regardless of the situation, the question remains the same. Do people change?

I have discovered many things recently. The very first is I love the bed and breakfast we stayed in for our anniversary. It is an inventive idea for a bed and breakfast type place. The rooms are actual cabooses. That’s right, railroad cabooses.
