Inspiration

Where does inspiration come from? Does it fuel your professional life, your personal life or both? Do you find that the smell of coffee inspires you? A good book? What about a baby’s laughter? For some people, inspiration comes from great food and drink. Inspiration can also be spiritual, such as having faith. Inspiration can be both tangible and as elusive as the wind.

Today is a great day to talk about inspiration and where it comes from. Why? Because inspiration has hit me smack dab in the middle of my forehead! Yesterday was Mother’s Day. Although it was a very quiet day in the Whalen home, it was a perfect time for reflection while I puttered through my day. I heard from my son and my two nephews, my sisters and various family members and friends with tons of well wishes for me. My husband spoiled me with a fantastic breakfast, champagne, and later dinner out. What more could a mom want on Mother’s Day? I had it all in one day.

So, why the reflection and what does inspiration have to do with it? There were a few years where I was not able to enjoy my children and friends because I worked out of state for about seven years. It was tough and holidays spent with family was sparse. As I went about my day, yesterday, it dawned on me more than once how special this time in my life is. I can spend time with family any time I want, not just on the holidays. I can reach out to friends for meetups at a moment’s notice. I can be present in all these lives. And it’s the little things that I thought of. Don’t get me wrong, the big things are fantastic too, but the little things I appreciate so much. My husband making me my morning coffee. My son bringing me my mail and giving me a hug. My nephew waiving hello to me as he drives by on his motorcycle. Friends sending me a heart text to tell me good morning. My sisters sending me “I Love You” texts. They don’t mean much to other people, but to me these little things mean the world to me and show me how much I’m loved and appreciated.

This is where inspiration comes in. I found that my inspiration comes from all of these people. All of their little acts of kindness and love inspires me. I’m inspired to be a better wife. I enjoy taking care of my husband, but his attention to the little things makes me want to do more to make him happy. I’m inspired to be a better mom to my son and nephews. To be there for when they need advice or when they need some grace and are running late with something or are having a bad day. I’m inspired to be a better sister to my Sissy Boo’s. To acknowledge how much they mean to me and return the love and support they give so freely. I’m inspired to be a better friend to all those wonderful souls that check in with me sometimes daily just to say hi. I want to be the friend that if they need me, I can be there no questions asked just as they are for me. We are not in this life alone. I want to inspire others to be better humans too.

My inspiration is the love of family and friends. What inspires you? Is it people, your faith, or the little things that make your day incredible? Whatever it is that inspires you, share the wealth. Give inspiration as you receive it. You will be surprised at how good this feels and how many people you in turn will inspire. Afterall, in today’s world, we all could use some inspiration.

Most people who tell others they are authors work independently from the requirements of corporations or even normal jobs. Their job is to create. To craft stories we want to read.

It’s a good question. One I have heard many times in my life. Usually after somebody does something no one approves of. Yet, regardless of the situation, the question remains the same. Do people change?

I have discovered many things recently. The very first is I love the bed and breakfast we stayed in for our anniversary. It is an inventive idea for a bed and breakfast type place. The rooms are actual cabooses. That’s right, railroad cabooses.
