March is almost over. We have had an interesting start to our year so far. I am sitting here chuckling at myself. I almost wrote thus far in the previous sentence. I stopped myself. Few people appreciate the word thus, so I try not to add it when I write. I do such actions with many words. Most of them from my earlier reading as a child.

However, such a discussion is for another time. In this post I wanted to update everyone on what has happened so far (😉) and what is coming up. In January, we didn’t publish anything. We took this time to complete some freelance work. It was interesting work.

We completed a handbook, by we I mean mostly my wife Yvonne, for Ornella’s Insurance. It was our first handbook. I am quite proud of it. It took quite a bit to get the design right, the illustrations and pictures completed and formatted correctly. We learned a great deal about crafting handbooks. I look forward to doing many more soon.

We also finished The Miracle Three. A self-published art workbook in both eBook and print formats by Juan and Kay Pena. This was a learning curve for us. It was the first time we had to format illustrations and pictures inside the actual writing. Like all such work the end result was nothing like the beginning work. It took patience, learning new software and endless conversions until we had a smooth polished manuscript in all formats. Look for The Miracle Three on Amazon. We are looking forward to working on the next two workbooks with Juan and Kay.

We published Ronnie’s Revenge in February. Ronnie was a labor of love for me. It was my own work. The journey needed to complete this eBook was extensive. I originally came up with concept of a Christian thriller with heavy, uncensored depictions of abuse and rape and torture. The story was designed to be one of redemption but who would receive redemption and how was the bit I wanted to keep to myself.

I wrote a treatise on it and sent it out to my support group. Some liked it, some hated it, others criticized it for being non-Christian in their opinion, etc. The list went on. However, one of the authors I work with asked if she could take a crack at it.

Thus, the journey began. We went round and round about the content, the characters, the plot, the level of effective descriptiveness. In the end, the writer walked away from the project and I scrapped most of what was created. Then I wrote it the way I wanted it. Only it was heavy handed and often strayed from the plot for the sake of intensity.

I handed it off to my wife for her critique. She liked the concept and most of the plot but considered the majority of what I had written to be unnecessary. I fussed and fumed and launched a tirade about how it was perfect as is. Which of course it wasn’t.

So, I changed hats from writer to editor and broke out the red pen. Retooled the way it was written, the level of intensity and smoothed out the plot lines. Kept a few twists in there for fun and kept the original Christian premise of revenge and redemption. In the end, after many edits, drafts, and submissions to readers I finalized the manuscript and published it. It too is a work I am proud of and I plan on many more Christian themed thrillers. Right now, we are doing a freelance piece of work for someone who specializes in the way women look. Or rather, the way they want to make themselves look. She is an expert on fashion. On how and why clothes do what they do. I learned a great deal about lines, color and how to take what you have and make it work for you.

The work is called Beauty Fashioned Simply. It has been quite an experience with pictures. Tables, charts, columns, and just about every other design function you can add to a document. Crafting such an extensive document in Word for PDF is no problem. Doing so for eBook formats is another thing altogether. It takes a great deal of knowledge in formatting to get it to convert correctly. Even more so to do it with a professional polish we here at the Pyrateheart Press provide. It is a must read for every woman who is concerned about the way they look to the outside world.

Here in March, we published our take on taking ordinary actions and turning them into extraordinary events. Ordinary to Extraordinary hit several milestones for us. It was the first time we held a competition to find content. The competition taught us so much. Mostly it taught me I must be very clear on what I want and how it needs to be submitted. The results were amazing. So was the outpouring of submissions. We look forward to another competition soon.

Ordinary to Extraordinary is available on our website www.pyrateheartpress.com in the section marked loot. I look forward to the reviews for this work. I enjoyed editing the flash fiction and short stories. The forms of fiction writing were new to me. I discovered I enjoy the short fiction formats from flash fiction to micro fiction to short stories. It takes a special talent to craft so much story into so few words.

Coming in April is, at long last, Book 2 of the Pan’s Naughty flute series – Quincy’s Seductive Tune. I have seen the cover and it is excellent. Makes you want to see what kind of naughtiness is inside. If you enjoy erotica, then this series is for you. Read book 1 (Penelope’s Melody) to get a hint of what is to come inside Book 2.

Quincy’s Seductive Tune is a highly erotic and sensual delight. Miranda Cummings has improved upon her concept and taken it to an entirely new level. If you love the supernatural and are up for naughty adult entertainment, then this is for you. Look for it on April 20th in our loot section at www.pyrateheartpress.com.

Our last bit of update involves a new romance novel. A unique romance. One where the main protagonist is confined to a wheelchair and has no feeling from her sternum down. A hard, unrelenting story about the way life takes sudden turns in the blink of an eye. How it can beat you down again and again if you let it. Unfortunately for our main character, she has. And then one night her world changes again in the blink of an eye. A blink which returns something she thought gone for good. Look for Millie in May.

That’s all for now.

Most people who tell others they are authors work independently from the requirements of corporations or even normal jobs. Their job is to create. To craft stories we want to read.

It’s a good question. One I have heard many times in my life. Usually after somebody does something no one approves of. Yet, regardless of the situation, the question remains the same. Do people change?

I have discovered many things recently. The very first is I love the bed and breakfast we stayed in for our anniversary. It is an inventive idea for a bed and breakfast type place. The rooms are actual cabooses. That’s right, railroad cabooses.
