Who is CS Patra?

CS Patra • Nov 09, 2020
Hello, everyone! My name is CS Patra and I am the author of the new book, Heirs of the Blood Queen. I’m thrilled to be sharing this story about witch siblings with all of you. This is the first book of the series, but it isn’t not going to be last. I’m not 100% sure how many books I will have but it will definitely be at least seven out there. There is a lot to cover in this series so the journey is going to be quite interesting. So far, the second is already starting to take shape and go in a new direction but the main plot that I had will stay the same. Although I’m far from finished with the second book, I do hope to have it by next Halloween.

I’ve been writing on and off my entire life. I have published a few things although I am thinking about rewriting some of them and going about a different way with them. I’m very partial to writing fantasy, mystery, and romances especially LGBT ones. Heirs of the Blood Queen will eventually have some romance in it but for now, it is really focused on the family and the supernatural world around them. I’m not sure exactly what influenced all this except that I really wanted to write about witches. There’s a lot of stuff about vampires and werewolves and zombies but witches gets covered every now and then. I also wanted to do a series that wasn’t always fighting a ‘monster of the book’ (basically, each book would be them fighting a different monster). I wanted the plot to be something big that carried through all the books. That is how I work with all my series’. I always tend to work on more than one thing at a time because I find myself burning out on a certain book after a while.

In my spare time, I’m usually spending it with my husband or I’m running chores and doing some kind of work within the house. The recent pandemic has changed up how my year was going to go and what I would be doing in terms of writing. However, I haven’t really stopped writing anything. I’ve slowed down a bit at times and I have been distracted but I am always working on something. Although I have taken a tiny break from working on the HOTB sequel, I do hope to get back into sometime during the holidays. I’m already planning on what I want to do in 2021 so look forward to that!

As far as giving out advice, I would definitely tell authors to look around and check out every publisher and agent out there. Not everyone is going to be a good fit for you. Not everyone will want the book that you are writing. So you have to do your research and see what they publish and are interested in. Make sure you stay professional when you address them and give them exactly what they are asking for. It will honestly help you out a lot if you know what you’re getting into. I’d also suggest that, if you have the time, to read something the publishers have put out. See if they are selling or publishing what you want to write. I also suggest looking/following writers and agents online. Almost everyone these days is on social media and there are always pitch parties going on where you can pitch your book to interested publishers/agents. Take part in them if you can. See what other people are doing and look at what makes a good pitch/query. That will certainly give you a lot help in the long run. And don’t forget to engage with potential readers/followers about your work, be it current or future work!

See you soon!

Most people who tell others they are authors work independently from the requirements of corporations or even normal jobs. Their job is to create. To craft stories we want to read.

It’s a good question. One I have heard many times in my life. Usually after somebody does something no one approves of. Yet, regardless of the situation, the question remains the same. Do people change?

I have discovered many things recently. The very first is I love the bed and breakfast we stayed in for our anniversary. It is an inventive idea for a bed and breakfast type place. The rooms are actual cabooses. That’s right, railroad cabooses.
