A PHP Update

R. Ross Whalen • Nov 13, 2020
I thought I would take this time to update you all on what is happening within The Pyrateheart Press. First up is copyrights. I am most happy to let you know we have received the copyrights for Finding Her Voice and Heirs of the Blood Queen.

We still have a couple of copyrights in limbo but as we make the necessary additions the copyright office wants these will fall in line soon. I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am to have a three-ring binder on the selves of our office with copyrights in it. Real live paper copyrights.

We may only deal in eBooks but it sure does feel good to have a tangible piece of paper to show someone.

Though I have to amend the eBook only remark. We helped a new author craft her self-help book into both an eBook and a paperback. We congratulate Pat Gucatan on her accomplishment in publishing Defending Your Happy Place. We had a lot of fun doing this project even though at times I wanted to pull my hair out. We will soon have an autographed edition on our shelves.

Our freelance efforts are beginning to pay off. Right now, we have three new projects in the works. One is a business brochure for an insurance agent. Yvonne did most of the work on this one. It is mostly complete. We are working with the author to get the final details in place.

We also have an art book in the works. We finalized the necessary legal paperwork and have begun to put this together. This will also be both an eBook and paperback. I enjoy this project. It is told from the artist point of view and leads you down the path an artist must take to see how to craft their artwork. I will have the authors and name of the project for you soon.

One venture which is totally new for us is we have accepted an offer to help an author craft a series of children’s books. A series no less. I found this funny as I myself think more in the lines of mature subject matters. It is where I gravitate to. However, Yvonne booked the job, and I must say it is intriguing both in the formatting and the subject matter. Good children’s books stay with you for life.

We continually screen freelance jobs for good stories and ideas. I look forward to letting you in on them as we get them started.
Onto other news as they say. Or semi-old news. We are running a contest! This is a first for us. We decided to publish a book titled Ordinary to the Extraordinary. A series of short stories in an anthology style composition which take an ordinary subject, i.e. washing dishes or grocery shopping, and turning it into an extraordinary experience.

We opened the project up to the public on two levels. The first will be a series of flash fiction stories based upon the same idea. I adore flash fiction. It is a real treat to have someone craft an entire story in six words or more.

We will have a series of flash fiction and short stories combined to complete the eBook. If you want to get in on this then visit us at pyrateheartpress.com and dive in. the rules are there for you as well as the deadline. We hope to hear from you soon.

On the eBook front we have the book Ordinary to Extraordinary coming out in March. In February we have Ronnie’s Revenge. A hard look at what happens to a young woman who was raped and left for dead. It is a Christian themed book if you can believe it. Each chapter is based upon a bible verse in the journey Ronnie takes from vengeance to redemption. Look for the supernatural elements as well as the gritty realism this eBook offers.

In January we have nothing so far but that could change in an instant. In December we will be bringing you the Rescue of Rhonda. Book 2 in the Cheyenne Dances in Moonbeams series. Follow the continuing adventures of Cheyenne Dances in Moonbeams. A Park Ranger who also happens to be a covert agent for the FBI. Pick up where Nunya left off. See what happens in both her life in the present and inside this next case. We will be offering these as a two-fer. Look for them on our website.

In November, we are bringing you the beginning of a series I have nurtured for years now. Learn how one man is transformed into a gargoyle and why. Follow along as he is cursed by a witch whose curse backfires. Begin the journey in our rendering of the gargoyle tale in Gargoyle.

That’s about it for now. We will keep you posted as always. Take a look around the website and let us know what you think.

Most people who tell others they are authors work independently from the requirements of corporations or even normal jobs. Their job is to create. To craft stories we want to read.

It’s a good question. One I have heard many times in my life. Usually after somebody does something no one approves of. Yet, regardless of the situation, the question remains the same. Do people change?

I have discovered many things recently. The very first is I love the bed and breakfast we stayed in for our anniversary. It is an inventive idea for a bed and breakfast type place. The rooms are actual cabooses. That’s right, railroad cabooses.
